Ok, what the heck was I thinking?
Our friend Colette was going to do it regardless if anyone else went with her. It took a little nudging but I decided, why not. We met up before sunrise on Sunday the 23rd and rode to Union Station in downtown LA. We jumped on the train and took the 3.5hr ride to Lompoc. We had to carry everything we’d need for the next couple of days on our back, or in Co’s case in a pannier on her bike (better idea than what I did… small backpack).
Once we disembarked the train in Lompoc it was a short 15mi ride to our Hotel for the night. We washed our “kit” and walked across the street for some early dinner.
Monday the 24th was the 85+ miles from Lompoc to Ventura. We met up with Paul, our friend in Santa Barbara along the way. We had to keep pushing to beat nightfall. Pulled in to our Hotel just after the sun had set.
Washed our “kits” again and walked across the street to a fun Pub for some well deserved food. We met up with another friend Eric there.
The next day was the ride down from Ventura, mostly on PCH and into WLA and home. Another nearly 70 miles.
Between us we had several flats which added to the adventure, but we made it. My shoulders were on FIRE from the backpack.
180 miles in the bag.
